Malcolm Davies is a “soon-to-be” graduate of Curtin University’s Bachelor of Arts (Multimedia Design) course, with a particular flair for game and real-time environment design, as well as 3D modelling and animation.
For the past two years, Malcolm has centred his studies around the games and serious games industry, focusing on asset creation (3D models and 2D textures), art direction and aesthetic control in game environments, and, to a lesser extent, level design and player experience. This focused study culminated in the collaborative effort that produced the first level of “The War of Art”, a Curtin Multimedia game project, that was awarded second place at the Nullabor game demo competition in August this year.
Along with game design and development, Malcolm has put significant effort into refining skills in 3D animation, motion graphics, and web design and development (using HTML and CSS).
Prior to returning to university in 2005, Malcolm spent six years working for various Western Australian Government departments. With time spent in a wide range of roles, he has developed very strong communication skills, both oral and written,
including being responsible for writing web content for the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection’s WA ScamNet public awareness initiative and representing the same Department on a shared monthly live radio spot on 95.3fm “multi-cultural radio”.
Outside of university and his employment, Malcolm is a competitive fencer and fencing coach, an avid gamer and recently discovered an interest in stage combat and combat choreography.
