"Falling Down"

Produced as the final project for a unit that guided students through an exploration of the principles of animation, “Falling Down” was my attempt at bringing character and personality to an otherwise mundane object, namely a white rectangle.

Using mainly anticipation and exaggeration of movement, I wanted to create an emotive response from the viewer as they watch something struggle against its obstacles, and, unfortunately, still fail.

The end result is, as I see it, an approachable, even cute, animation that makes one feel at least a slight twinge of sympathy for the box as it is knocked back down to the ground.
